NANCY AND JOHN IN 1988!

Gotta love those big shoulder pads!

John wanted to use this picture for the current staff photo!

Who is John's doppelganger?

OUR BUILDING'S HISTORY: 6300 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland

We have great respect for the building that we occupy and of its original owner, SB Odell.
SB (Sampson B) Odell was a successful black entrepreneur, realtor and broker in Oakland in the 1960's through the 1980's. 6300 Telegraph Avenue was the site of his real estate office. SB was able to provide real estate services to the black community in Oakland, allowing many the opportunity to buy their own homes in an era when this was not the norm.

We have always valued this history which includes an amazing aerial photo of the Bay Area from the early 1960's. The photo mural (photo on the right) was in what would have been the "closing room" for the real estate transactions. This room was initially our front office. When we remodeled the clinic we split the 'closing room" into two treatment rooms. We were careful to protect the photo mural.

So it is now viewed in two parts. The first is the "City View" and the second is the "Alcatraz" view,

  • When we remodeled our clinic in 2006, the plumber that we hired to install our front clinic sink was SB Odell's nephew. Just by chance!
  • Some years ago, John treated the son of the photographer who took the aerial photo. Unfortunately, he cannot remember his name....it was a long time ago!
