WHAT TO EXPECT AS A PATIENT AT SOS

You will be assigned to the care of a licensed Physical Therapist.  We do not utilize the services of aides or assistants.  Your therapist will follow you from the beginning to the end of your personalized rehabilitation program.

SUBSEQUENT VISITS

Each subsequent visit will be 30 minutes one to one with your therapist but please plan on spending 45 minutes in case more time is needed for passive treatment or unattended exercise performance.
We believe that physical therapy rehabilitation is a partnership between the therapist and the patient. In order for you to reach your goals as quickly as possible, you will be expected to perform your exercises at home or at your gym when you are not at our clinic.
You are welcome to use our gym facility while you are undergoing your rehabilitation at SOS.  You may come in before your scheduled appointment, or stay after the appointment to perform your exercises.

THE EVALUATION

Your first visit will be one hour and will consist primarily of an evaluation.  It will usually be accompanied by some initial instruction in exercise as well as instruction in the management of your condition.
The physical therapy initial evaluation is a thorough clinical examination to identify impairments and functional limitations and provide a physical therapy diagnosis of your condition. Your physical therapist will create an individually tailored treatment plan based on your goals and on the results of the evaluation.
The number of visits you will likely need will be determined by you and your physical therapist at the time of the evaluation.

Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration and allow a total of 90 minutes for a 60 minute appointment. The therapist may have you perform exercise after the evaluation or may want to provide you with a modality, such as ice or heat after the 60 minute session. Cancellation of the evaluation appointment may necessitate rescheduling all of your appointments.

Please bring the following items for your evaluation appointment:

• The physical therapy prescription from your referring physician.
• Your insurance card.
•Comfortable clothing that is suitable for performing exercise. We suggest athletic shoes, shorts and a t-shirt. A tank top or sports bra is preferable if you have neck or shoulder problems.
• Your registration packet that you received in the mail.
